About Me

My photo
Hi! I am a momma of 2, I’m southern, a vegetarian, & a student. I’m married to a top-notch guy who serves his country for a living. Ethan is the serious type & Lily is the complete opposite of serious! We are currently living it up in NC! This blog is a little place for me to document our lives.

Hello!!

Well I've been thinking about this little blog for the past couple of weeks. I think it is time to start writing again. I feel like I have something to finally write about.

So 2013 has been a CRAZY year. Life just seems to be flying by. My kids are growing like weeds. Ethan started Pre-K {he even rides the bus!}. Lily goes to pre-school with the same teachers Ethan had last year. Sohel returned from deployment in July & its been a roller coaster getting back into being a family of 4. I started another semester of college but decided to change my major. More on that another time.

I have some things I want to share with y'all over the next few posts. So hopefully I can stick with it!

Lily's 3rd Birthday and a mini update.

Thought I would dust off the blog today. Give y'all a little update about what is currently going on in my life.

Sohel is deployed, he left in early December. He missed my 30th birthday {holy old lady} & Christmas. I can't complain {to much} we have decent communication thank goodness for the iPhone and iMessage. No one should deploy without an iPhone - I swear totally worth the $600 million dollars they are charging for them.

Ethan is doing good at preschool but has a bad case of the "i miss daddy" blues this week. Super grumpy and sad. But this weekend we are going to my parents house to celebrate Easter and Lily's 3rd Birthday so I think some grandpa and grandma time is just what he needs!

Speaking of Lily, she is turning 3 on Sunday. I can't believe it. I swear she just "popped out of my stomach" as Ethan always puts it ;0). On Saturday we had a small party at the local frozen yogurt place with just a handful of friends. It was ice cream and heart themed and I am pleased with how the paper and favors turned out {pictures below}. She had a blast! I did it a week early since her actual birthday falls on Easter this year. I have birthday plans for the 31st, I'm having a cake made for her and she is getting a Minnie Mouse bike for her birthday! So I see lots of riding with Ethan on Easter Sunday.

I am still doing the school thing, 2 semesters done for my teacher certification in Elementary ed. I got 2 A's and 1 B last semester, go me! I've been trying to workout and lose weight but I've had bronchitis since November and can't seem to shake it. Not a lot going on in my world, just driving the kids around to all their activities and school. Slowly becoming a soccer mom.

So before S deployed we went to Disney World, Seaworld & the Kennedy Space Center. I will fill you in on that next time. I have lots of tips for a novice Disney traveler as well a Military Disney visitor.

I'll leave you with a few pictures of Lily's party, thanks for reading!

Pinterest Gift Swap hosted by Marine Parents

Hi all!!

I'm linking up with Marine Parents to share what I received and what I made on the Pinterest Gift swap! My partner was Jacky from The Sweetest Petunia. She sent me a super cute chevron necklace!

I decided to do something Christmas themed for Jacky after seeing on her blog that our birthdays were both close or on Christmas like her! So I made a felt circle garland and glittery ornaments!

I found the tutorial here for the felt wreath. I added fiberfill to my circles to make them 3D. It took a few days to cut, stitch and stuff but I feel it turned out great! I hope she liked it!!

Go check out the other projects on Marine Parents linky for some awesome ideas!

Minnie Mouse Ears Tutorial/DIY

Hi again! I'm slowly trying to get back in to this thing called blogging but life gets in the way pretty much all the time. So anyways I'm back with a tutorial on how to make your very own pair of Minnie  or Mickey ears!

I scoured the internet to find a how to, I found one over at the Suburban Mom. BTW check out her blog its chalked full of awesomeness! Anywho, I liked her blog but felt that I could make it a little simpler for me and well I have a lack of resources here in good ol' Jacksonville. So here is my DIY :)

Supplies:
Black foam sheets (depending on the size will determine how many you will need, 8x12 made 1.5 ears) You can buy the self sticking foam sheets - I only bought one of those for Lily's ears because I wanted them sparkly
Hot glue gun & glue
Small black head bands {bought mine from this Etsy shop, doesn't look like she sells them anymore, but any 1/4 inch soft headbands will do}
Pink polk-a-dot Ribbon for the Minnie ears
White thread and hand sewing needle
The template found on Suburban Mom blog {click the link above & you'll go right to her ear tutorial!!}

Steps:

1} Print out the template from Suburban Mom I mention above in the supplies section. Cut out 2 of the foam per headband.

2} If you didn't buy self sticking foam, use hot glue to glue the headband to the middle of the ears. Line up in the middle of the rectangular piece of the 2 connected circles. Then apply glue to the rest of the circle and stick to the other circle.

3} If you are making Minnie ears, cut about 6 inches of pink polka dot ribbon. Make a circle with the ribbon and use the white yarn to connect the ends. I threaded my sewing needle, sewed through all the layers and then wrapped around the ribbon in the middle a few times to cinch it together. Apply a dot of glue to the center of the bow and apply to the left ear!

TIP: Make sure you space your ears out, in the top picture you can tell that they are a little to close together.

For the ears display, I used 2 mason jars I had around and put black and white twine around the tops. I put one edge of the headbands inside. You could make a foam block to hold them or just stick them in a basket.

I wanted a cute sign for everyone to see so that they knew to take a pair of ears. I had a inexpensive black picture frame from the Target dollar spot. I used some of the pink polka dot paper my friend made for the invitations and downloaded a free Disney font and typed up this sign

"Now we've got ears,
its time for cheers!"
Added a cute Minnie bow and it was complete!

Tulle Pom Pom DIY

So I promised months ago that I would share a DIY or two from Lily's Minnie Mouse birthday but life got in the way and I had some rough times with school, family and just life in general.

So here you go!

DIY Tulle Pom Poms

The party was supposed to be outside because we live in the good ol' south and its warm in March. So we bought a bounce house and all sorts of outdoor toys and woke up on Saturday to pouring down rain :(. My plan was to decorate the window in our dining room so it would look nice outside and inside. So I headed to Pinterest  and I found this cute DIY.

I tweeked it a little for my own needs so here is my DIY

SUPPLIES:
2 different colors of tulle -- mine was 6" in width {I bought it at Hobby Lobby, they had 25 yards on a spool for $4.99}
Floral wire {I had green floral on hand but a silver would be nice too}
Wire cutters
3x5 index card
Fabric scissors
clear fishing line {use a thicker fishing line}
-----------------------
Cut tulle into strips, I did strips of 18"
Wrap entire strip around the index card, slide index card out and pinch the tulle together like your making a bow
Cut wire into 4" strips and wrap around the middle of the tulle
Then cut the ends of the tulle and then fluff them out to make a pom

I wanted to string them up so 6 were hanging on one string, so I cut my fishing line and and looped it through the floral wire on the first pom and pushed it all the way to the bottom of the string

I tied a knot and then strung up the next one doing the same steps but I didn't knot it. I squeezed the floral wire tight enough on the fishing line so that it would stay in place but I could still move it a little

I alternated between my fuscia and taffey pink colored poms, doing 3 of each color on the string. I tied a knot at the top and used a push pin to hang from my ceiling.

{here is the final look}

After the party, I moved them to Lily's room and they are hanging with the tissue paper poms from her first birthday above her {soon to be painted} dress up station.

I'll be back soon to show you how to make the giant number 2.

Thanks for stopping by!

Minnie Mouse 2nd Birthday Party

My little baby turned 2! I can't believe how quickly these 2 years have flown by. It could be because I don't sleep much (thank you Lily!) or it could be how much fun these 2 kids are!

For Lily's 2nd birthday I wanted to do a Minnie Mouse party. Looking around online for Minnie stuff, I found tons of generic Minnie stuff or Minnie with hot pink and zebra print. Neither was the look I was going for. I decided to check out Pinterest and I got tons of great ideas!

I asked on Facebook if anyone could create me some printable stuff, my friend offered! She did a great job. I made tons of stuff for the decorations, I made Minnie and Mickey ears, I spent days on Etsy shopping for sweet treats for the party. Check out the end of this post for all the shopping details! Over the next week, I'll share all my DIYs.

Hope y'all have a great weekend, we are off to buy a new car! Have a great Easter everyone!!

This post is FULL of pictures!

{sweet table}

{cupcakes}

{minnie cookies}

{candy and suckers}

{drinks}

For food we did a Hot Diggity Dog hot dog bar. We had tons of toppings {chili, cheese, ketchup, mustard, spicy mustard, dill relish and onions}.

{napkin rings}

{favors}

For the favors a friend mentioned that Walgreens had Minnie and Mickey cups for $.99 but I wasn't able to find enough, so I ordered from Birthday Express. I found Minnie and Mickey bubbles and activity pads also at Walgreens and then bought small pack of crayons at a local party store. Total cost $2.68 for each one.

{minnie and mickey ears}

I asked my momma to make Lily a dress because I did not think I'd have time to make it plus who is better to ask than the person who taught me to sew! She did a great job and it was super cute and everyone loved it! However she wouldn't pose for me to take a picture (she is 2 after all!)

Of course a picture of Ethan just for fun!
