Cookie Weekend #1 {Spiced Walnuts & Greek Butter Cookies}

On the list was Spiced Walnuts and Greek Butter Cookies. Both are reminders of being younger at my Nana's home. My mom has carried on the tradition through the years.

These cookies are very easy to make and are a staple during the holiday season at my home!

Greek Butter Cookies

1 c butter
4 T confectioners sugar
2 c flour
1 c chopped walnuts
2 T water
2 t vanilla
1/3 c confectioners sugar for rolling

Preheat oven to 350.

Cream butter and sugar. Blend in flour, stir in nuts, water and vanilla. Mix well.

Shape into balls (I used a cookie scoop).
Bake at 350 for 20 minuets.

When still warm roll into confectioners sugar. Let cool and enjoy!

Spiced Walnuts

1 c sugar
1/2 t cinnamon
1/4 c evaporated milk
1 T water
2 1/2 c shelled walnuts
1 t vanilla

Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a saucepan, add evaporated milk diluted with water. Cook over medium high heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat when the temperature is at 236 degrees on a candy thermometer or the soft ball stage (rolling boil, this is really just a judgement call if you don't have a candy thermometer).

Add the walnuts and vanilla. Stir until the mixture has coated the walnuts. Turn out onto wax paper and separate the walnuts. Let cool and enjoy! These can be frozen as well!!
These are a big hit around our house, hope you enjoy them as well!

I wanted to share a little bit about Scentsy. I have been selling since April. I started to sell because I wanted to contribute to my family financially. I love Scentsy products, the smells and the warmers give many options to chose from. They are econimal to purchase since the warmers last as long as you want them too! Scents can last 2-4 days depending on how often you have it on.

I have jumped ahead of myself a little bit. Scentsy is a wickless candle system. Scented wax is melted by a light blub inside the warmer. I have over 80 scents to choice from and many different warmers. I sell scent paks, travel tins, scent circles, stuffed buddies, foaming fragrance foam and room sprays. Wax comes in 2 different sizes, the bar and the brick. Warmers have many different themes, we have military warmers, nursery warmers, holiday warmers, plain warmers, mid size and full size warmers as well as plug-ins.

Lenox - Full -Size warmer

Campus Collection

Travel Tins

Scent Buddies Nautical collection - Mid size warmers
Examples of the scent options - Bricks, Bars, Scent Circles and room spray Fragrance Foam Slient Night from the holiday collection
Marine Corps warmer - part of the military collection

Grotto, example of a plug-in

Scentsy is a great company to work for. They offer many insentives, including trips and even an iPad! It is a no pressure sales company. I am NOT good at selling. I have terrible stage fright and hate speaking in public but doing this has helped me get over my fears.

If you are interested in making some extra money for spending or to pay a bill Scentsy maybe for you! To start out with Scentsy you need to purchase the starter kit. This comes with a full size warmer, a bar, room spray and all of your testers. This is everything you need to start! Also included is a binder with all your paperwork to help launch your new business as well as catalogs, invitations and order forms. It's very easy to figure everything out and get started right away!

If you have read this far I want to say thank you for reading! Scentsy is an awesome product and worth a sniff!

Time to scrap.

Just wanted to share a few of my scrap pages. I think I am getting better at scrapping, I'm enjoying it more. I am still working on taking better pictures. I couldn't for the life of me get the pic without a glare.

Ethan loves to help Sohel build and fix stuff. He will always pick up the drill and trying to help.

Lots of ribbon and brads in this layout. The pictures aren't the best of the kids - it was over 100 degrees that day and we had been sitting in the car for an hour waiting to get into the hotel for the fireworks.
Thanks for reading!

Who me? Really?

A super nice fellow Marine wife and scrap goddess whom I have never met in person but enjoy tweeting her, Shannon sent me the Stylish Blogger Award. Who would have thought it? :)

So now that I have been awarded it I will tell you 8 things about myself.

1. I am scared of the drive thru. I am scared of heights. I am scared of pretty much everything. Weird I know.

2. I listen to country music in the privacy of my car and sometimes on my iPhone in the privacy of my room while crafting. I was that typical punk rocker growing up and was too cool for country music, but I confess I like it. I like it a lot. I blame living in Kansas.

3. I may complain about moving but I really like it. When it was just the hubby and I it was easy now that we have added 2 members to the family, it is much harder but I still enjoy the new places.

4. I met my hubby online. On AIM back in the old days of 2002. I was 19 he was 21. We have been together ever since, 8 whole years married 4 years.

5. I have a BFA in theatre, costume design. I sewed throughout college, I had planned on making it my career but it didn't work out that way, yet. I have big plans to utilize it in the near future.

6. I am slowly turning my family green, not the color but the way of life :). We are getting rid of dryer sheets and disposable diapers. Next on my list is napkins and paper towels. The hubby humors me but sometimes I go to far to fast haha.

7. I love to bake and cook. I find it almost impossible to plan menus for 3 people who never eat the same thing. I always make that my New Year's goal. I will be better about cooking.

8. I am going to make a new cookie every weekend for the month of December. I plan to expand my love of cookies and blog about it in the process. I have a pretty narrow mind of what I like. Peanut butter and chocolate are at the top of that list. {If you have any suggestions, send them my way}

Ok so now I am to pass this award onto 8 other awesome bloggers but here's the thing, I only have 7 followers and one of them gave me this award lol. But I am going to share a few of the blogs I follow religiously:

1. Karen - The Proctor Family blog
2. Laura - L to the Third
3. Karie - Wife of a Wounded Marine
4. Katie - I go by Katie
5. Keiko Lynn -Keiko Lynn
6. Ann Marie - Household 6 Diva
7. Roxy - grrfeisty
8. Cam - The Adventures of Wettern Family
Go check out these amazing blogs, maybe you will find something neat and feel the need to follow too!

Wow almost a month...

I am not the best at this keeping up with the blog thing. Been hectic around here.

Family Update:
We have more time to move!! Wee! If everything goes as planned {rolling eyes} we will be in CA mid January.
Ethan is still a little bit crazy and all over the place. My hubby decided to shave his head (he says trim, I say shave). Took some getting used to but I like it now. I miss his long hair sometimes still. Now he looks like a boy and an older boy at that.

Lily is still refusing to eat solids, throws up most everything every single time. I sure wasn't given an easy kid the second time around. She won't drink her milk without being swaddled and in a quite room. Sleep time, well that's an adventure. But she is sure darn cute :). She has started to make new noises. Less squeaking and yelling and more BABABA. Super cute!

Hubby is BORED. Hasn't worked since late September and isn't used to it or enjoying it. He can't wait to go back to work and I am right there with him.

We have a busy few weeks coming up, lots of friends visiting, my 28th birthday (eeek!), Christmas, New Years and of course the big move! Looking forward to everything. Can't wait to see all my friends and of course get older ;)

Well I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving, got in some shopping and great family time.

We are on the move...again

So I just moved to NC, like 15 days ago. My hubby just got word that we are moving to California. I am pretty excited, ok make that REALLY excited!

I'm looking forward to the beach, the famous people (who wouldn't be a little excited about seeing someone in real life that you only see on TV usually). I'm looking forward to all the new foods, places to visit and just a new experience.

I have lived most of my life on the East Coast between Ohio, North Carolina, and Virginia. With a 1.5 year stint in Kansas (visit there if you haven't, it's beautiful!). I'm (we) are ready for something new.

There is a small catch, we have to move in 30 days, yes you read that right, 30 freakin days. Why am I blogging and not organizing my move?

4 stories: color

I am borrowing this from Frecked Nest - check it out if you haven't. She is one crafty lady!
01. Green

This is my FAVORITE color. I have a hard time not buying things with the color green in them. I have a very hard not decorating my entire house and family in green.

02. Fiestaware

If you are not familiar with Fiestaware. It's very colorful china. I grew up around it. My Nana had tons, my mom had tons and still has tons. She goes to conventions about it. I think all the color I grew up with has made me appreciate calmer colors. Other than green mentioned above, I tend to use more subtle colors in my life. But I still love the dishes and I am trying to decide what color to get for my collection.

03. Brown

I feel the color brown is a great color to use a base. I have a brown couch that I have blue pillows on as my accent. I use brown a lot in my crafts as my jumping off point.

04. Covers

I ignore the rule "Don't judge a book by it's cover" I DO judge a book by it's color. I am drawn to books that have fun brightly colored covers. I don't tend to read boring plain covered books. Usually I enjoy my books, sometimes your grandma isn't right!

Woah, it's 10.10.10! That's crazy this will never happen again!

Here are 10 things I came up with in 10 mins!

01. I enjoy fall the best out of all the seasons. I love December also but I look forward to October/Fall every year. This year I am glad to be on the East coast to enjoy the beauty.

02. I love hot chocolate. It's the BEST warm beverage EVER!!
03. I have the CUTEST baby girl in the world. She is a sweetie. She may love herself some daddy but she will only cooporate with mommy. She is MY girl!
04. Lily loves to sit - she loves to play with toys that are brightly colored. She has no interest in crawling or laying on her belly. I think she is just going to stand up and walk and never crawl.
05. I'm moving AGAIN. This time to NC, I am going to move back to my home town, Burlington. The hubby will be gone for 5-6 months with the military and I don't want to live in NoVa. So I'm moving back home...

06. This is the coolest cake I have ever seen in person! The Mommies group I belong to had a Halloween themed birthday bash and this cake was donated to us! From what I hear it was super yum!

07. I own 10 pairs of different colored Converse (perfect number for today!) I have pairs that I have had since high school. I can't part with them even though some of them have holes.

08. I am scared of a lot of things. Crazy weird things like drive thru's - never ever ever ordered at one. Don't think I ever will.
Ants - the scariest bug in my opinion.

09. I am always tired, 2 kids can wear you out plus I drink way to much caffine which makes me stay up late therefore making me more tired.

10. I love google reader! I follow lots of blogs and thats the only way I can keep track of everyone.

Well there you go. I should hit the 'rack' as the hubby would say.

The hubby and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary on 09.30.10. 4 years ago we got married on N. Topsail Beach, NC. We had the only nice weekend for the entire month. Our wedding was sandwiched between 2 hurricanes. We had beautiful weather and great family to spend the day with. I'd like to think it was the party of the year!

A little to much to drink you think?!?

I'm not a big present kind of girl. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a nice gift but I just am happy to be spending time with my hubby. But he bought me the prettiest flowers! Great job hubby!

He is now 2 years old. He weighs in at 26lbs and is 33.5 in tall. We escaped with no shots at his 2 year visit! Lucky him!! He loves to watch Olivia, Kipper, Thomas the Train and the moive, Cars. He sleeps in a big boy bed and loves to pretend to sleep and snore just like daddy.
He is very funny and loves to laugh. We are still working on the talking, he says more words everyday but still likes to scream to try and get his way. He is pretty ornery and has been spending more and more time in time out. Overall he is a great kid!

Here he is doing another one of his favorite things to do, read.

She is one of the cutest babies I have ever seen :) I may be a bit bias. She can sit up when propped up. She can sit for a few minutes. She can roll from back to side. We are still working on the other directions. She hates tummy time. Just discovered her tongue and seems to love to chew on it!
She is VERY loud and demanding when she wants something. She is just starting to get the hang of sleeping in her crib without her bouncer. Some nights are better than others. No she doesn't sleep through the night but neither did Ethan, I just don't breed good sleepers!
We haven't been to the Dr. for her 6 mo check up (military hospitals are backed up, plus I will only see one Dr. The rest are crazy!) But if I had to guess, I'd say she weighs about 13lbs.

Here she is being grumpy while sitting up :)
I also have so military news, My hubby has been accepted back into the USMC on active duty. Long story for another post. But he has been active duty reserve. It's not a good time to be getting into the USMC because of all the cut backs, so for him to be accepted back in is amazing! I am very pleased and proud of him!
We have been told (rumor) that the 3 bases we might get are Camp Pendleton (S. California), Hawaii and Camp Lejeune, NC. This are listed in my order of preference. Why Hawaii is not number 1 you ask? 2 reasons - I have never flown over the ocean and that scares me plus the deployments are frequent with his MOS and I don't want to be 6 hours ahead of everyone I know and I don't want to be alone on that beautiful island! I want to enjoy it as a family.

Ethan's 2nd Birthday Party

Ethan's 2nd birthday party was on 09.18.10. He was turning 2 on 09.22.10 but we decided to have a big bash on the Saturday before.

We decided to have a train themed party. He loves all things "choo-choo!"
I spent the better part of a week baking and cutting out decorations. I made Chocolate Chip cookies, Peanut Butter cookies, sugar cookies, brownies, Oreo balls and 2 types of cupcakes. We had a candy bar and a food station with meatballs, Train shaped PB&J sandwiches and chicken nuggets.

The morning of the party started off interesting with my tall almost 2 year old reaching up and grabbing a cupcake.

Trying to hid the frosting on his mouth

The sad cupcake
I used a template I purchased from Parties By Hardie for all his decorations. I went a little crazy. I made invitations, envelops, water bottle wraps, napkin rings, food wraps, signs for all the food, a banner, signs for outside, cupcake thingy, flags, treat bags and a t-shirt. I am not the best photographer but her are some pics from the party!

Train shaped cookie favors. I used a CD sleeve and a food wrap around it. Bummed I didn't get a better pic. I was running behind and people were showing up. I was in a rush to get pictures.

The only pic I could get of the shirt from the front. I used the large train image as a pattern and cut it out of felt.

PB&J Train shaped sandwiches. I bought a train cookie cutter to do the sugar cookies and sandwiches off Etsy. Check out his other cookie cutters!
The hubby insisted that we needed a bouncy house. So here it is

Having fun with his friends!

This is my little Lily enjoying the party :)

Already planning Lily's 1st birthday party in April. I have a feeling that one will be even more detailed. Hopefully I will learn to take better pics by then.
