Big Boy Diapers

Ethan has been wearing cloth diapers today. So far it has gone ok. No leaks, no huge messes. He wore one on Sunday but it leaked (ew!). He has been wearing Fuzzi Bunz in medium and one size. The leaky one was a one size, I think I didn't make it tight enough. So far after tightening them this morning we have no problems.

The hubby has been not to thrilled with them, even though he has only changed maybe 5 total. He doesn't even have to wash them lol. I am trying to be a good wife and save some $$.

Here are a few pics of Ethan in his cloth diaper that I took with my iPhone.

We had a great weekend. Hubby and I went on a date on Saturday. My aunt offered to watch not 1 but both kids!! We went to eat at the Cheesecake Factory. My hubby is in love with that place. We also walked around Clarendon for a while, checked out The Container Store and Crate and Barrel.

On Saturday afternoon we went to visit a new baby, my friend Kelly had an amazing home birth so we went to visit her and new little one Camden. He is such a cutie! Kelly is doing amazing! We then stopped by Liz's house to hang out and eat lots of goodies. We had a busy but fun Saturday.

On Sunday we decided to go to see Toy Story 3 with the kids. It was a blast, Ethan did surprisingly well! He only yelled a few times at the movie. Very cute :) Came home and have a lazy afternoon.

I'm looking forward to the long weekend. We got a coupon from groupon.com for a hotel stay for the 4th of July. We are going to the Gaylord National Hotel http://www.gaylordhotels.com/gaylord-national/ We got a one bedroom suite and I can't wait to see it! Plus they have a big 4th celebration with fireworks and children's activities. I'm hoping it will be a fun time :) I think on the 3rd we are going to go to Kings Dominion. I hope we can hit to water park with the kids.

Been thinking

Most of this blog has consisted of diaper talk. But I was reading another blog post from another blogging mom and it got me thinking. Is the military the right place for my family?

We have 12 years until the hubby can retire with half his paycheck for the rest of his life. We have big plans for retirement. We plan to be the RV driving 50 somethings. Hopefully towing a cute little convertible Mini behind it!! When he does retire (if he retires) our children will be 12 and 13. I think high school will be the perfect time to be settled into one location. BUT I yearn for a place to call home.

I moved when I was 15 from Ohio to NC. I consider NC to be my home. But since starting college in 2001 I have moved, wait for it, 12 times. That's insane! Ethan has lived in 3 different states, he isn't even 2 yet! While some of the 12 moves were around the corner or from apartment to apartment because of flooding. We have done a few major moves. First one being from NC to VA after I graduated. Then a few years later VA to KS for Sohel's USMC job in Kansas City. Then KS to NC and then back to VA. Each time adding a little bit more to the moving truck and one new person in the car :0) I used to love to move but now with kids in tow, its becoming hard. I just want to be able to use all of my address labels, is that to much to ask???

We are awaiting word on our next destination. I hope its somewhere on the West coast, since that's the only coast we haven't been to. Is it crazy to think the desert would be neat for a few years? My mom says yes, she thinks I will melt away in the heat of 29 Palms. I think San Diego would be great, perfect weather, a few family members live there. I could be closer to LA and maybe get to use my degree in costume design. Maybe Ethan and Lily could be discovered and we could retire before 12 years ;0) One can hope!

Its not forever. Moving isn't forever. Someday we will find our home, maybe KS, maybe NC, maybe GA, who knows. But for now the USMC has been good to us and our children and I guess we are that military family. For now I am just trying to give up my need to be in control of all situations and roll with the flow. I know that the husband has the families best interest at heart. He will do what he needs to he always has! That's why he is my husband, plus he is easy on the eyes ;0)

BumGenius one size
All of these for $250.00
Now I have 18 diapers for both of my kids. I think that should be good for a while. I might have to wash every night but I don't mind because it only takes about an hour and then I can just hang dry them overnight.

Diaper Crazy!

So I was introduced to this website for cloth diapering mama's http://www.diaperswappers.com/. I'm addicted. I spent most of yesterday, in between dealing with screaming children, buying diapers. I'm buying diapers for Ethan and Lily so I've been buying one size BumGenius and Fuzzi Bunz. I can't seem to stop! Sohel has threatened to block the site from my computer :).

I started to forget what I was getting because I was buying form a whole bunch of people that I had to go back and make a list for myself. I did buy new one size BumGenius for Ethan because they are getting rid of their OS 3.0 brand. So I got 6 for the price of 5.

Check it out if interested - http://www.bumgenius.com/one-size.php

Here is a picture of what I have been putting my diaper diapers in

Just a small trash can with a lid. I have to keep it in the bathroom (ignore the nice wallpaper *gag* we are renters and can't change it) because Ethan is into EVERYTHING. I did have it in the garage but I guess because of the heat, there were little gnats all over the place (EW!!!) So inside it came. Right now I am using a trash bag to line it, they sell these things called wetbags or liners that you can use. I don't have one yet, I found one on diaperswappers and I'm hoping to here from her soon!

Things with Lily have gone from bad to worse. She cries ALL.THE.TIME. Except when sleeping. She makes it pretty difficult to get her to sleep too. She needs to be swaddled and me holding her and walking around the house. I, of course, can't get through to the peds office. No one at DeWitt hospital will answer the phone or its busy. I just need to leave a message for her Dr to call in that new prescription. Grrrrr.

Well happy Friday everyone, I know I am looking forward to this weekend! Going to see a friends new baby, maybe go to a party at another friends house and catch up on all my house work.

Washed diapers again today, this time I am trying to sun them and see how long it takes to dry outside. With it being 1 million degrees outside I am thinking not to long??

Anyways here are some pics

Lily modeling her Fuzzi Bunz (and yes she always sits with her head up, freaky neck muscles both of my kids have)

Here are the diapers drying out in the sun.
I should add that since I use detergent to wash my diapers that I run an extra rinse. My buddy told me that today when she was reading my blog. Its nice to have friends who cloth diaper to help me because I would be lost in the sauce!

My review of the cloth diapers

Ok so here is my review up to now of the diapers

3 unbleached indian pre-folds
- hard to fold and leaky
3 bleached chinese pre-folds
- hard to fold and leaky
1 snappi
- just plain annoying to hook on the diapers
2 thristies fab fitteds
- leaked everytime I used them, not just leaked but the entire diaper was soaked
2 kissaluvs fitted diapers
- these are fleece diapers so super thick and hot. The first time I used it I didn't know it needed a cover, well it does because Lily left her mark on my shirt :). Next time I put a cover on but still not one of my favorites.
2 thirsties covers
- works fine but not a fan of the pre-folds so I don't think I will need the covers
1 prowrap diaper cover
- same as Thirsties covers
2 fuzzi bunz with insert
- love these. A friend suggested to remove insert before placing in diaper pail and thank god I listened because by the time you wash these the entire diaper is soaked. So there isn't any dry place to touch to remove insert from diaper. GahROSS!
2 bumgenius all in ones
- love these also. So easy to use!

I'm on the search for good deals for Fuzzi Bunz and BumGenius AIO or pockets.

I have also decided to cloth diaper Ethan. He gets really bad rashes from the amount of times he poos a day (like 5 or 6 times lol). There is no end in site of the diapers as he is no where near ready to be potty trained.

Yesterday was the first full day of cloth diapers. I had one poo to change and it wasn't that bad! Just an easy dump into the toilet and a quick rinse and then into the diaper pail. I also washed them for the first time this morning. It took about 1 hour to wash and dry. A cycle of pre wash on cold. Add detergent and was on hot. Then dry on medium! That simple!

Dinner last night was ok, so says the hubby. He likes my bean chili better that the turkey chili, said it wasn't spicy enough. Even with 3 tablespoons of chili powder. Dinner tonight was going to be stuffed shells but I don't have enough pasta sauce so its leftovers!

Lily has been dealing with reflux or something we think is reflux. Last week they had us take her off Zantac for a week. Nothing has changed. She still screams during feeding and after. Its hard not knowing what to do. I hope we can find a solution soon.

Well as usual there is a kiddo need momma's attention.

My first night with a cloth diaper went great. She wore a fuzzi bun. We had no leaks and no problems. I'm waiting for her to poo to see what I really think of this cloth business ;0)

Tonight for dinner we are having chili. I don't care that its 90 degrees outside, I love chili! I'm making two types, 3 bean turkey chili and just bean chili. I don't eat any meat and the hubby and E only eat turkey, chicken and fish. I'm hoping it turns out yummy. I love cooking in the crock pot, little clean up and pretty easy to do with 2 kids needing Momma!

I have decided to cloth diaper

I have decided to cloth diaper the little one to save some $$. Let me tell you, its either very hard to figure this stuff out or I am a big dummy. I found a website that you can order a 'trial' pack of diapers. It came in the mail yesterday and I am now washing them (2nd time out the 3 they recommend). I can't wait to try them all out on Lily.

Here are some pics of the diapers before washing.

Contents :

3 unbleached indian pre-folds

3 bleached chinese pre-folds

1 snappi

2 thristies fab fitteds

2 kissaluvs fitted diapers

2 thirsties covers

1 prowrap diaper cover

2 fuzzi bunz with insert

2 bumgenius all in ones

I am also borrowing 4 small fuzzi bunz from a friend. So far by just looking at them I like the Thristies fab fitted. However they are all a fleece fabric and its 95 degrees outside so I am not sure how Lily's bum will like it. Hoping to start trying them tomorrow.

If you are interested in trying out diapers yourself here is the link where I ordered my dipes. http://www.jilliansdrawers.com/products/clothdiapers/tryclothfor10/newborntryclothdiapersfor10
