About Me

My photo
Hi! I am a momma of 2, I’m southern, a vegetarian, & a student. I’m married to a top-notch guy who serves his country for a living. Ethan is the serious type & Lily is the complete opposite of serious! We are currently living it up in NC! This blog is a little place for me to document our lives.

I want to talk about one of my favorite sites on the internet, Shutterfly.com.

Spring is here! Today is Easter. We had a blast making memories with the kids. I love to use Shutterfly.com to keep track of my memories. I have a family Shutterfly site to keep my parents and Sohel's family up to date with kid pictures as well as a few of me and S thrown in there.

I love the photobooks. I make one to summarize each of the kids first years. I made one for our wedding, our first move across the county and one for Sohel's mom with all her wedding pictures in it. I am hoping to make a recipe one soon. I just can't get enough of them!

Being a Military wife, we have moved A LOT! I love Shutterfly's moving announcement cards. So many cute options.

I just love Shutterfly's personalized gifts, for Christmas we made our mother's mugs covered in the kids pictures. They were a hit. With Mother's day coming up I plan on checking out Shutterfly for gifts for our mother's!

If you ever need anything to do with your photos, I would recommend checking out Shutterfly!

hurry up and wait

Hurry up and wait, one of my LEAST favorite USMC sayings.

Today we went to eat lunch with the hubby on base and play at the park. It's beautiful here today, sunny and 70. While pushing Ethan on the swing Sohel tells me about his plans for the next year or so.

School in Pensacola - 4 months
SSgt course in Quantico - 1.5 months
Training for deployment - unknown amount of time
Deployment on MEU - 7 months
Potential second MEU deployment - 7 months

If you add that up it would put him away 19 months give or take. Thats almost 2 years! Insane. When he is back from deployments the kids will be 5 and 3. Thats crazy.

Don't get me wrong, I know what this was all about when I signed my marriage certificate. I can handle being a single mom. I'm not scared of the dark or spiders. I don't need my husband here all the time. But I like him, I like his company. I enjoy our road trips just to eat at a restaurant (since Jacksonville is severely lacking in non chain foods). I will miss him.

I will miss him more when he is in FL and in VA since he is in country but unavailable to us. Deployments are one thing, you sort of just deal with the lack of phone calls and emails. He isn't thinking about emailing us, he is thinking about keeping himself and his men safe. I am thinking the same thing. I just want him to come home undamaged. I don't need a phone call every day. But the in country "deployments" are harder, at least for me. I get jealous that he is eating out with other guys. Without a highchair. I get jealous that on Saturdays he can sleep in. I think he is getting a break, while I am on call 24/7. I know that in reality, its not like that. He is busy, doing USMC stuff. Its a different kind of life while mine stays the same day in and day out.

While nothing with the USMC is ever in stone until those orders are in hand or that bus pulls away, I am still in the hurry up and wait stage. Try and get everything set up for his departure, get the house ready, find someone to mow my grass, get the oil changed. All the "man" duties.

lily's first birthday party

We had family and friends over for Lily's first birthday party this past Saturday. We had a lot of fun and are very grateful for all the family and friends who came. I didn't go to over board with the decorations (at least I don't think so :)). I had a great time with the theme of cookies and milk. I found this party on A. Party Style and used it as my inspiration. I decided on a teal and pink color scheme based on a dress I bought for Lily from Zulily.com. I bought a DIY printable from Dimple Prints on Etsy for the decor. I used my Shilouette machine to make her invitations. Overall I had a great time and I think everyone else did too!

We had a cookout with yummy turkey burgers and of course cookies! Lily seemed to love her cake and had fun watching Ethan open all her presents. He was like a torpedo. Speaking of Ethan, he was obsessed with wearing a party hat. He would yell it at everyone who came in the house, "PARTY HAT!!" Even though we were going to have the party outside (but 25 mph winds had a different plan for us), we moved the party inside and I think it still turned out great.

Now for the pictures (there are lots!)

blurry because Ethan was moving fast ripping open her presents
